The joint Bristol and Meriden club lapidary studio is open!

The Lapidary Studio is located in the basement of the Barnes Nature Center building at 175 Shrub Road, Bristol, CT. Access is by the right side door in the basement.

It is open generally on Saturdays and Sundays from 10:00 to 2:00 depending on the availability of the supervisor (check home page or your Chip n Pick for dates).

There is limited space and equipment.  Anyone interested MUST call or email Mike Z. in advance to see if we have a supervisor or if that day is already booked with users.

(See your Chip n Pick for Mike's contact information.)

We currently have two flat laps and eight grinders. These machines will cut and polish cabochons, aka cabs.

We have a two 6-inch trim saws for trimming the many slabs available.

The two 10-inch saws are for cutting rocks into slabs.

We have a flexible shaft machine and drill press for drilling holes in your lapidary creations but you must supply your own diamond drill bits.

Users must clean up the area around the saw and be instructed and signed off by a qualified supervisor. Users need to bring their own paper towels and snack.

There is currently NO cost to use the Lapidary Center.

All users must be club members in good standing and go through a quick learning session on each machine and safety practices.

It is for use by club members for making items for personal use, it is NOT to be used for making or processing commercial quantities.

We have both wax and super glue dopping, safety glasses, aprons and lots slabs and rocks to choose from.

We also have a buffing machine and filter hood for polishing metals, a rock splitter and an ultrasonic cleaner.

The clubs have put a TON of effort into creating, equipping and supplying this studio. It is for you to use so please do so!
