LMSCC SHOW MARCH 2007

The tables have been taken down, the boxes are on the shelf, and the figures are in. Our 36th annual show is behind us and it appears to have been very successful! There’s a lot to say about the show so bear with me.

I would like to acknowledge two distinguished guests who helped out at the show. Bill Shelton, one of the founders of our club (and still a member) flew back east from Tucson for a week and spent the whole weekend at the show. Bill arrived Friday afternoon, rolled up his sleeves, and pitched right in. On Saturday and Sunday I asked him on many occasions to help with some special tasks that I overlooked. Good to see you Bill, hope you had a chance to catch up with your friends and colleagues, and many thanks for all the help! (we miss you Linda)

Ellery Borow is currently the EFMLS vice-president, president of the Water-Oak Gem and Mineral Society in Waterville, ME., and he recently became a member of our club. Ellery came down from Maine to represent the EFMLS and help us at the show. This is only the third show that I have chaired and on many occasions Ellery has given me much needed advice and guidance on the finer points of putting on a show, both from his personal experiences and from an EFMLS perspective. I value his advice and expertise, and appreciate all the help he gave the club throughout the show. Thanks again Ellery.

SPECIAL THANKS to Katie Collins for being our Dealer Liaison throughout the show. Katie took care of any problems that arose and was always available to watch their booths when they needed a break. Also Harold Moritz for all the printed signs we use at the show, storing, hauling, and maintaining the clubs display cases, and getting the club free use of a cargo van for the weekend to transport all the show supplies and fixtures.

The club apologizes if we forgot to recognize you. Let us know and we will make sure you get your due.

Now that all the formalities have been taken care of, there are a few thoughts that I would like to share with you. One thing that stuck in my mind throughout the weekend was the feel of the show. The clichι “The joint was jumping” seemed to fit. It was good to see old friends reacquainting after a long winter (lots of handshakes and hugs),plenty of conversations, aisles full of people, dealers who were very busy, and a great show staff making it all work. I received many, many compliments throughout the weekend both from the public and the dealers.

The success of any club or society depends on its members. A good show is the result of a lot of work, and many members volunteering their time and resources. Our show turned out very well this year, which is a direct reflection on everyone who participated and helped make it work!

I gotta go now and start planning NEXT year’s show! THANKS AGAIN EVERYONE.  “ROCK ON”
